CASE STUDY:
Kyiv Conference on Anti-Semitism
International Public Diplomacy
Maximized government and NGO participation, upgraded a community-based commemoration into an international policy event.
Led by entrepreneur-philanthropist-legislator Oleksandr Feldman, Ukrainian community and human rights organizations sought to leverage Ukraine's one-year chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Beilis Trial, which had galvanized international response to anti-Semitism.
Analysis and policy responses to contemporary anti-Semitism were integrated into the original history-centered conference. Direct outreach to OSCE and U.S. Government officials — and to non-governmental organizations — attracted high-level participation and visibility for the issue across Europe.
The result was a prescient, action-oriented update on the OSCE's landmark 2004 Berlin Conference and a fitting, comprehensive consideration of Beilis.
